Tranent Co-operatives
EAST LOTHIAN CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1940-1992
The society was formed in 1940 by the merger of Tranent & Haddington (see below) and Dunbar & West Barns with the society headquarters in Tranent. In 1946 Duns & District became insolvent, so was taken over by the society.
East Lothian merged with Border Regional in 1992 to form Lothian and Borders. This society merged with East Angus in 1998 to form Lothian, Borders & Angus. In 2008 Lothian, Borders & Angus was absorbed by the CWS

TRANENT CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1862-1936
The society was formed in 1862. Cockenzie, which was formed in 1865, joined Tranent in 1876. By 1920 the society was the lagest society in the area, have also aquired stores in Ormiston and Pathhead. The society had storehouses in Haddington, farms at Easter Windygoul, Kingslaw, Muirpark and Winton and a market garden at Bank Park.
The society merged with Haddington in 1936 to form Tranent and Haddington, based in Tranent. This society merged with Dunbar & West Barns in 1940 to form East Lothian - see above.
