KIRKLAND INDUSTRIAL CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1862-1902

Kirkland was once a village about half a mile from the centre of Methil. The village grew through coal and mill operations and was absorbed by Methil. The Kirkland Industrial Co-operative Society was formed in 1862.

The society discussed amalgamating to Markinch in 1900, but there was a dispute about the documentation, resulting in the amalgamation not taking place[1]. The society was more successful with Leven Reform, joining this society in 1901.
