Alva Co-operative Bazaar and Alva Co-operative Baking had meetings regarding amalgamation from November 1909 with the amalgamation taking place in 1911. The intention appears to have been to use the name Alva Co-operative Society but Alva Co-operative Bazaar was retained. Bazaar was dropped from the title in 1951.

The society merged with Alloa in 1968 to form Alloa and District. This society became part of the Forth Valley Group, formed in 1969. The societies in Forth Valley Group merged to form Forth Valley Co-operative in 1979. Forth Valley joined with Fife Regional and Central Fife at the beginning of 1987 to form Fife and Forth. However Fife Regional was heavily in debt, so the society had to be rescued by a CWS takeover in June 1988. The consolidation in 1989 following the takeover lead to the Alva store at Stirling Street being closed.

ALVA CO-OPERATIVE BAZAAR SOCIETY 1845-1968

The society was formed in 1845. In 1851 it had 63 members who recieved 15/- dividend on £2 shares. By 1863 it was paying dividends to members and non-members on purchases. It also declared that it should no longer work on credit. As with other societies, not all products sold were entitled to a dividend. The society formally stopped working on credit in 1865, which caused a lot of dissatisfaction in the society. In February 1866 a meeting was held to look into forming a new soceity, Ochilvale Society. - the Ochilvale store was opened in May. In 1901 Ochilvale agreed to sell it's business as a going concern to Alva Bazaar with those members who wanted to joining Alva Bazaar.

ALVA CO-OPERATIVE BAKING SOCIETY 1847-1911

The society was formed in 1847 with the objective to sell bread at the lowest possible profit. When the society was formed, bread in Alva was selling at 10d for a 4lb loaf, which the society sold for 8d[1]. In 1856 to compete with the society, bakers in Alloa were selling bread in Alva 1d cheaper than they were selling bread in Alloa and claiming that the society was adding excess rice to reduce cost.

The society had meetings with Bazaar regarding amalgamation from November 1909 with the amalgamation taking place in 1911. The intention appears to have been to use the name Alva Co-operative Society but Alva Co-operative Bazaar was retained.
