Paraguay 500 g 2006#.jpg

Paraguay, 500 guaranies, 2006.

Numista lists this a new type in 2006.  Years are 2006 to 2019.

Notice the object on the reverse, between the 'B' of 'BANCO' and the edge of the building.

Here is the coin type, now dated 2014.

Look at that object again. Is it a house or a tree?

Here is the same coin type dated 2012.

However, to my eyes the portrait on the obverse looks different.

On the reverse, a clearly defined tree appears to the left of the building.

Is the 2012 coin a variant, or is it merely weakly struck?

Paraguay, gold 250 000 guaraníes collector coin of 1987.

Paraguay, 500 guaraníes, 1997 - a circulation coin.

Paraguay, 500 guaraníes, 1997 to 2005 - a circulation coin.

Paraguay, silver 1 guaraní commemorative collector coin, 2002.

Above you see some earlier and different versions of the same design.

They appeared on both circulation and collector coins.

For me the biggest difference is with the texture of the ground behind the "500"...
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

Aha! Yes! I hadn't noticed that. I was looking elsewhere.

Definite variant, then. Do I win a Nobel Prize?  :)

Paraguay 500 g 2016.jpg

Paraguay, 500 guaraníes, 2016.  Another variation.

I had forgotten that Paraguay has a tradition of doing variants:

Guatemalan and Paraguayan variations.

I think the whole area below the building has been re-worked and made more detailed (see e.g. the fence at right). Have you noticed the missing dot after GRAL on the other side on the 2014 coin? Good find.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Yes, quite a few changes are apparent.

The tree to the right of the building seems smaller on the 2016 issue.

According to Numista the coin was issued from several different mints. (I think there might be a difference in the mint list between Numista and Schön but I don't have that book right now.)

Some of the variations are probably related to the mint.

Schön says:

RCM: 2006, 2007, 2008.

SA: 2011.

Casa de Moneda de Chile: 2012.

mk: 2014.

The mint listing stops at 2014.

But who gave those mints the right to amend the design details?

Paraguay should demand a refund!
