Uddingston Co-operatives

Uddingston was a market town that developed with coal mining - the collieries on Bredisholm estate, first opened around 1855, provided employement for about 1000 men when fully operational[1]. By the 1890s it was also being developed as a residential town for merchants working in Glasgow and the Tunnock's Bakery in the town was started. The town is now primarily a dormer town for Glasgow.
UDDINGSTON CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1861-1991
The society was formed in 1861. The store was opened in March 1862 with teh objective of selling good quality products at reasonbale prices[2]
The society became part of Scottish Midlands (ScotMid) in 1998.
