Auchterarder Co-operatives
Auchterarder was an important town that fell into decay but was revived by the arrival of handloom weaving in the 1840s. The town also developed as a tourist destination. A train station was built in 1848 close to the town and a second station, Crieff Junction, was opened 2km to the south of the town in 1856. The town became a burgh in 1892. The Crieff Junction station was renamed Gleneagles in 1912. Caledonian Railway, who had taken over the line in 1919, buult Gleneagles Hotel in 1925.
The Feus is the area to the east of the centre of the town and the Townhead is the area to the west of the town centre.
The town co-operative societies had joint annual social meetings. A social meeting was held in 1919 under the auspices of the Co-operative Men's Guild during which unification of all three Auchterarder societies was dicussed[1].The Baking and Feus societies agreed to united in 1920 as Auchterarder United, which was also known as Auchterarder. A second voted was held in 1949 where United agreed but Provident turned down amalgamation[2]. Provident joined United in 1954. The Ruthven Street store was put up for sale in November of that year[3] and the society united to the SCWS in 1955.

AUCHTERARDER CO-OPERATIVE BAKING SOCIETY 1859-1920
The society was formed in 1859[4]. In 1872 the society declared a dividend of 5% on capital and a divdend of 4s 6d per 100 loaves for members, 2s 3d per 100 loaves for non-members. The society improved and extended it's premises on Ruthven Street in 1905[5].
The society joined with Auchterarder Feus to form Auchterarder United in 1920.

AUCHTERARDER FEUS CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1861-1920
The society was formed in 1861 as the Auchterarder Co-operative Society. When Auchterarder Provident (Townhead) was formed the society became known as Auchterarder Feus to distinguish it from that society. In 1866 the scoiety was paying dividends on members' purchases only[6]. At this time membership was £2 with a minimum deposit of 1s 7d. Dividends had to be put towards the membership until the membership was paid up, after which the member would recieve the dividend. The dividends paid that quarter ranged from 12s to £2.
The society joined with Auchterarder Baking to form Auchterarder United in 1920.

AUCHTERARDER PROVIDENT CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1866-1954
The society was formed in 1866. The society was also known as Auchterarder Townhead, the location of the store, before Aucterarder United was formed.
After several meetings that failed to approve amalgamation, a meeting in March 1954 approved the society joining Auchterarder United[7]
