There must be dozens in India. There is a series of: Learn (language) trough English. I have these for Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, etc.
Besides there are several school books, which teaches very basic Urdu to start with. Next are several dictionaries. Particular a dictionary Urdu-English-Hindi is very helpful.
To be able to read and speak it you may try a Muslim tutor. You must be able to find them in Gwalior too. Twelve months training will give you sufficient experience to read coin inscription, what is of course the major aim to understand the script.

Thanks for the replies, Oesho and Ajay.

I tried all the links but the problem is that none of these links actually show you the PERSIAN SCRIPT. They are all in English script. I doubt whether Persian fonts have been designed till now for the Computer.

I think the best place to look for Urdu books would be the booksellers behind the Jama Masjid in Old Delhi area. May be today or tomorrow I will buy some good books.

I first started with "Urdu for All" An Introduction to Urdu Script from the National Council for promotion of Urdu Language New Delhi. They have a great range of books and I got it through the "Exotic India" site. You can get a whole series of publications through them.

It is not so difficult if the script is straight forward, however as we all know there is a certain degree of artistic licence on the coins and that is what takes the effort.
