I think that it's just luck of the draw where they tend to end up.   If a certain area orders 50p coins, the next bag goes there.

There is nothing in the spec that says that they have to bear the date 2011, as the wording is 'For the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription "ELIZABETH · II · D · G REG · F · D · " and the date of the year, ...'.   That wording could apply indefinately, unless the order is revoked.

Watch out in 2012!  :P

OK, so should we change the subject of this topic to "Re: UK Olimpic 50p series"? :)  The spelling sure has an Italian flavor ...

These Uncirculated coins are not the same as those that will enter circulation - according to a Royal Mint representative, the coins are struck on a press different from any used for circulation coins. It runs at a lower rate, resulting in a coin that has a finer finish than found on circulating versions yet is not at the "Brilliant Uncirculated" level.

In so many different designs, there must be strong and weak ones. So far, my clear favourite is soccer. It appeals to my sense of humorous coins.

Managed to get a Fencing 50p during my weekly trawl at Sainsbury's this morning so am well pleased with that.  I'm now up to 9 coins - this is the first one I've had that's actually a little scuffed looking on the reverse and so it's good to see that these are actually getting some real use.  Hopefully they are helping to get a new generation of numismatists started (which I guess was partly the point of having so many of the little blighters).

How's everyone else doing in their hunt for the whole set?

@hertfordian

I've 10 and haven't had a new one in a while.  Have several of Aquatics, Badminton, Boccia, Cycling, Gymnastics and Goalball;and one of Athletics, Canoeing, Hockey and Volleyball.

Got a 500 coin bag from the bank on Friday and got nothing new, apart from 1997 (Machin) and 1998 (IRB) Jersey 50ps.  The buggers only gave me £243 worth of coins instead of the £250 I paid for :-(

saving the attached for posterity (whilst I remember) - as I think it will be updated in March with increased mintages.

Congrats on the find.

What are you planning on doing with them?

I am on the search for 2 of each of handball one plus two each of the others I listed.

Also still need 1 of the Athletics (Kid Designed).

I think the 20 pieces are staying in the bag....

From a different source today - someone who had got them from their change...  one handball and one wrestling...  A bit more news ?

(At the start of the month I got Wheelchair Rugby and Hockey.)

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

You are doing good any finding these.

I think the wrestling one is news.
