A recently acquired token; that of The RiverBus Partnership. Apparently a failed attempt at a service on the river Thames in London.

A good history of the company here - but no mention of the tokens. http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/Riverbus.html

Interesting to see the KN mintmark.

The boats ran between Charing Cross and Greenwich (where my favourite hotel was). The trip was more expensive and slower than underground or train, but infinitely more comfortable and a pleasure after another numbing plane trip to London. You'd pass such sites as Tower bridge, the Tower, Cutty Sark, the Tiger Moth, MOMI...

On one trip, we passed a man in striped trousers, black jacket and bowler hat on a motorized James Bondian contraption looking like a surf board, speeding along on the Thames. I remember looking around and seeing no cameras...

My cousin, newly arrived in Australia fifty years ago, went to his new job dressed exactly like that! The second day he wore the more acceptable shorts and thongs.

"motorized James Bondian contraption looking like a surf board"

...sounds like a jet ski.

The man was standing up on something that resembled a cross between a surf board (it was broad enough for his document case to lie down flat on it) and a kick scooter, except for its motorisation. The whole thing was beyond weird.

Note the King's Norton mintmark on the reverse. What was the meaning of "2 token"?

Figleaf

Sorry, I don't remember ever using the token. Memory (not reliable) says there were first and second class seats.

There was also a 1 token in Cu-ni so that may be the answer.

A new high-speed River Bus service started on 24 May 1999 and has now been joined by Uber. About Uber Boat by Thames Clippers

It appears from that they do now have 24 piers on the River Thames although the PRW tokens counter-marked PIER do predate this latter company.

These boats look considerably smaller than the ones I remember. Also, I was still around Charing Cross station until COVID struck and don't remember river boats mooring there. I have seen what may have been these boats moored close to St. Paul and somewhere in Southwark.

The site mentions on-board catering, which is new to me, but no on-board gaming.
