Heptagon mania and unofficial 50 pence coin shapes
« on: April 20, 2021, 09:05:55 PM »

In recent years we have seen a slew of gimmicky 50 pence collector coin issues from the sterling area.

Above you see just two examples. However, these issues are at least official, even if in poor taste.

Even some of the small Pacific territories have got in on the act, to profit from the current mania for these outrageously popular heptagons.

However, even these tasteless issues are also official.

This heptagon mania has led to the issue of 50 pence-shaped items that are not even fantasies, since they do not carry a denomination.

COVID-19. This is not just an unofficial 50 pence coin shape. It is a fantasy, because it carries the 50 pence denomination.

Worse still, the item has copied the obverse of an official UK 50 pence collector coin.
