Meiji era 50 Sen Silver Coin
« on: March 12, 2021, 05:16:37 PM »
I just bought these Meiji 50 Sen silver coins for under 10 USD each, as you may notice, I’ve washed 2 of them. What do you guys think? Could they be counterfeit? Many thanks!

they look OK at first glance, but it's very difficult to tell from the slanted pictures.
Personally I would not clean them.
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

Weight will be a key to identifying counterfeits of this type.

If possible weigh yours on a digital scale and compare to official weights.

As a rule, fraudsters concentrate on expensive coins or varieties, though there are exceptions, notably for cash type coins.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
