October 2020

October brought in the WOC Grand Numismatic Events events held in lieu of the traditional annual meets due to COVID pandemic.
Given the number of speakers & the high quality material prepared, the event was spread across two days.

Event 1
  • Gusev - Fascinating Bhutan
  • abhinumis - Kam Baksh copper coin of Hyderabad mint
  • Fosseway - Literature on Swedish tokens
  • Md. Shariful Islam - Purpose & method of the book “Sultanate Period Coins of Bengal”

Event 2
  • Dr. Shailendra Bhandare - Europeans in India - Numismatic Insights c.1500-1850 [Keynote Speaker]
  • Dr. Yigit Altay - Copper Coinage of Il-khans
  • THCoins - Jitals, connecting the dots
  • figleaf - Dutch gas tokens

Both the events were a resounding success with tremendous response!

Thank you! I could not attend the first October event, so will watch that now. And I may go through at least parts of the second one again. :)

I saw the entire video on Google Drive last week and thoroughly enjoyed it! Each topic was unique and not related to other topics, so it was an advantage.

Do we know what are the topics for next month's online meeting?

Yes Aditya. Each month, there's a new thread on the monthly event on the board Forum Events. Apart from date and time of the next event, you will see speakers and subjects appear as they become known and see the list coalesce into an agenda.

I have uploaded the PowerPoint presentation about Yeats and coins (a little expanded, I added the text which I planned to read and a few more pictures) to academia.edu - https://www.academia.edu/46588560/The_Poet_behind_the_Coins_William_Butler_Yeats_and_the_Irish_Coinage_of_1928 - anyone can see it but one needs to log in to download it. The paper with some more details is also there at https://www.academia.edu/363079/William_Butler_Yeats_and_the_Irish_Coinage - some details may differ as I found some more sources in the meantime.

Thank you, ford.ka.

I notice that you use two different spellings of Metcalfe in your text. It does in fact end with a silent 'e'. I only know this because I saw Mr. Metcalfe's signature on a document at the National Archives, London.

It is the automatic Spellcheck... Apparently, Metcalf is more common spelling and to make matters worse there is a character in a computer game Maneater called Commander Percy Metcalf. I must have missed the final slide as I was checking the PowerPoint.
The PDF presentation on academia.edu is now correct but there is nothing I can with the recording...
