Akbar dam. Mint: Narnol?
« on: June 19, 2020, 11:13:15 PM »
Hi all - need help to completely attribute this Akbar dam.
I see a date 978 but I have no idea how to identify the mint. I think it is Akbar because I feel I've seen coins with similar calligraphy before which were attributed to him.

Updated weight: 20.43g

Any pointers on how to start reading persian coins would be super helpful.
Thanks!

Very likely Narnol.
joined : a part of another dam of this mint for comparison with yours.

Thanks Saro!
Sorry but I'm missing how the added image (which I believe shows the 'fal' of falus based on what I could find on the net) helps identify the mint. Also, the calligraphy seems 'broken' and not as clean as the one you added - is it double struck?

The mint is completely out off flan and only the arrangement of letters can help : the "sin" and "wav"  of "falus" as you well pointed at top ( with a kind of link) over 3 dots are found on Bairata and Narnol dams (these are very similar in absence of the mintname  )
These two mints are known for their mass production of dams; yours belongs to one or the other.
The crack  is likely due to a broken obverse die.
