I compiled this listing to see if there was any commonality in topics linked to denomination.

Engineering & Inventions are confined to £2 issues.
Historical Events, are confined to £2 issues.
Literature is mainly confined to £2 issues.
Literary Characters are kiddie topics for 50p issues.
Sport is an even mix of 50p and £2 issues.
War & Armed Forces is a mixture, but leaning more to £2 issues.

Nicely done.

I think '£2 - 2003 50th Anniversary of the discovery of DNA' is better categorised as science, though, as is Mr Darwin, rather than Natural History.

Thanks for your reply <k>.

I did preface the listing saying "some could be argued to reside in others from the ones assigned", and the two you identified I thought were most suspect.
I will amend the list accordingly.

A good piece of work there.

My only thought is whether the 50p - 2009 250th Anniversary of the Royal Botanic Gardens could/should go under the Natural History category (given that it's really to do with both nature AND history)!  ;)

I think the Britannia '50th special anniversary edition' should be included under Engineering & Inventions as it commemorates the science that went into the making of the 50p coin.

My preference would be to retain the Heritage category. Do members have thoughts on this?

I did consider its inclusion but I would have listed it under Art & Design. I will certainly include it. May I ask members for thoughts on category?

'Art and design' is really numismatic art and design. So here we have coins referring back to coins. Maybe it should just be called 'Numismatics'.

The trial 2 pound coin is an anomaly - it was not even really issued as a commemorative, because the trial came also with a pair of the loose unminted components: pill and ring. I wouldn't have included this reproduced trial in the list, but obviously different people think differently.

I like that numismatic distinction <k>. Didn't think of that option and it would separate coins from any future true art & design issues.
I'll append 'numismatics' to the category and add the 2019 Britannia 50th special anniversary edition.

I like that numismatic distinction <k>.

That's what I call 'meta', because it refers back to itself. Sometimes called 'reflexive'. Or even incestuous or narcissistic, or up its own you-know-what.  :D

The edge inscription found on some of the round pound coins is reflexive: 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN' - 'an ornament and a safeguard' referring back to the physical inscription itself.
