Hi all,
Posting a very interesting and rare coin.
Shah Alam bahadur, Pre coronation issue. 1119AH/Ry Ahd. as Bahadur shah Alamgir second. Centrally struck with no test mark.

After the death of Aurangzeb on 12th February 1707, his sons fought a bloody war of succession. The second son of Aurangzeb, Muazzam shah along with his sons occupied Agra and laid claim to the imperial treasury. He ascended the throne on 24th Muharram 1119 (16th April 1707). He was corronated in Delhi on 15th June 1707 and won the battle of Jajau with his brother and rival Azam shah on 20th June 1707.
Shah Alam forbade use of couplets on his coins upon corronation. However, there are only 3 mints which mentions him as Bahadur shah Alamgir sani and those are Itawa, Akbarabad and Khambayat. These coins are most likely pre coronation issues but there are no evidence that they were stopped just after the corronation . However for Itawa mint, coins bearing the same dates are known with simple shah alam badshah ghazi legends and their rarity suggests that these coins were minted for a very short time.
Obverse- ba zar zad sikka sahib qirani, Bahadur shah Alamgir sani.
Reverse- zarb Itawa, sanah Ahd julus maimanat manus.
Very rare

A high quality coin and a wonderful addition in view of how difficult it is to find it. Congratulations.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
