Multi - Bingo
« on: February 11, 2021, 08:24:05 PM »
A Swedish amusement token.

I (or rather, uncle Google) found a reference to a Multi - Bingo game here, but it doesn't look like it's a trade name and Betsson Bingo (what's in a name?) lives from online gambling, where tokens are for coders, not gamblers.

As it came in a large lot of Swedish tokens, I presume it is Swedish, but without real evidence other than the above.

I am not at all convinced of the Multi - Bingo piece being British.

Try and match the font that to a Swedish token.... or one from Finland. That could work.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

Humista has two entries both have it as British but this is incorrect I feel.

collectgram also think its British.

hastur suggests its Swedish and made by Sporrong. This 24.3mm brass  piece doesn't have the C/hole.

Colnect have it emanating from Finland.

Another found has a 2 in centre.

24.3 mm is something of a telltale for Sporrong. I don't know what the significance of the size is, but a lot of Sporrong tokens have that diameter, yet it doesn't have a particular significance in wider life AFAIK, and it's a curiously non-round number in an age where SI units were in exclusive use in Sweden.

Multibingo (no hyphen) appears to be a game available currently on the Swedish online gambling site tombola.se and there are several other Swedish-language references to a similar game online, but none in any other language. A pre-internet version of the game may have involved tokens, and these may have been made deliberately as generic as possible to allow their use in e.g. Finland or the UK.

My searches found different variations of the names: Multibingo; Multi-Bingo; Multi - Bingo; no doubt there are several? ???

Slight new development. Betsson (see OP) owns Cherry casinos since 2006. That makes it more likely that this token originates with them. They offer the game, they own the hardware and they have the size.

For as far as I can see trademark registrations on "Multi Bingo" exist in the US, Canada, Philippines and in the EU. The latter is a registration of a Brazilian company, registered through an intermediary in Spain. None with the hyphen though.
