Burglary at Royal Mint of Belgium
« on: February 22, 2020, 10:31:22 AM »
In the night between Thursday and Friday, 3 burglars have broken into the Royal Mint of Belgium in Brussels. Several bags of coins have been stolen. It is said that these were damaged coins. They were caught by a guard. 2 suspects have been arrested and a part of the stolen items was retrieved. The suspects are 21 and 22 years old. They did not have a criminal record. On 5 March they have to come before the court.

It is strange that they broke into the mint as the mint itself does no longer produce coins since 2018. Royal Mint of Belgium is located near the rough area of Molenbeek where terrorists and other criminals live.

Fortunately, they picked a poor target to rob and were quickly apprehended. It sounds like the mint is a bit lax on security as the robbers apparently aren't hardened criminals.
