One thought came to mind, the small glassine envelopes that stamp collectors use, they may work. They are acid-free and won't mar coins and are semi-transparent.

That's a good thought, Bruce. I know of a collector friend who stores some coins in them...I've had a few too. I recently bought an old William lll crown and it came in  glassine holder. Looks like it's been in it for awhile too and shows no damage.
