medallion or coin?
« on: November 25, 2019, 05:55:17 PM »
I cannot make out any dates or zarbs on this, just the Kalima in the circle. Not sure if it is even a coin; seems from the remnant of a necklace loop it might have been just a religious necklace. The circularity is too good to be very old, I think. 9.0g, 26.8mm.

Dear jkk, it is a religious medallion (Persian):
First photo reads:
يا الله يا محمد , Ya Allah Ya Muhammad
يا علي يا فاطمه يا حسن حسين , Ya Ali Ya Fatima Ya Hasan Hussein
کربلا معلی شریف , Karbala Maali Shareef
Second photo:
Kalima in a circle, with religious praise in the margin written in Farsi.
I hope that helps.

Coin collecting has a curious name. It is also called the "Hobby of Kings".

It helps very much, Maythem, thank you. I wonder what era it might be from--my guess would be the early 1900s.
