Interesting video of the first strike ceremony, that took place at the end of June. It also shows the edge of the piece which looks very sophisticated.

It is differential helically reeded edge which is being used first time on any coin. The predecessor 500 yen coin ( current one ) was the first to introduce helical edge in 2000.

The first coins were yesterday released into general circulation. The Japanese government initially planned to release the new coins earlier this year but the rollout was postponed due to delayed updates to ticket machines at train stations and automated teller machines at banks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
