As we now know, the proposals ran into controversy after "The Troubles" started in Northern Ireland in 1969. The proposed coin was never produced, because nobody could agree on a suitable design.

My thanks again to our forum member eurocoin, who sent me a copy of the documents.

I have had an article on this subject published in the January 2015 edition of Coin News (UK). The article also compares the abortive designs with the actual UK coins that have been issued with a Northern Irish theme, from 1983 to date.

A Northern Irish themed website has also reblogged my original topic:

THE STRANGE STORY OF THE NORTHERN IRISH TWO PENCE.

That site is worth a visit.

A graceful way to add your name and a link to this site. Thank you.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

The home page there has a curious stone with a hole: DOAGH HOLE STONE - Co. ANTRIM
