THCoins

This coin had been lying in my junkbox for a long time. Holding it in hand again i decided to give it some attention at last.

The coin is thin as a razor blade, 19 mm by 1.14 grams. It is worn and struck off-centre. Still it has enough to tell.
On the obverse in the center the unmistakeable Chagatayid Tamga. The characters next to it define it as an issue under Kebek Khan AH718-25.
The top line reads "Sikkah". The little "3" on the right at the bottom allow us to pinpoint the date of minting to the year AH723 (1323AD).
What is visible on the reverse is the "Khaqan /  al-'adil" motto. This type is known to have been minted in Bukhara, though the mintname unfortunately is not well visible here at the top of the reverse.

Another dynasty not represented on WoC, I thought I had one small silver coin with the same Tamga but seemingly not as I can't find it yet

There are some Chagatayids in the index already, but indeed not many.
I think that many general Eastern collectors will have one or two specimen. WoC is probably not the natural habitat for the more specialistic collectors.

I hardly qualify as a "general Eastern collector", but I'd be overjoyed to have any Chagatai coin at all in my collection. It's a missing link between Genghis and Timur!

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
