Akbar (1556-1605 AD), Rupee, Hisar mint, AH 970.

There's so much to like about this coin, but I like the ex-centricity best. It fits my mood and it shows part of the outer ring, that would otherwise have been off-flan.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Nice coin with both Ah date and mint are visible quite clearly
Cheers ;D

I really have no idea if those information are visible or not, as i don't read the script at all. Whatever information i provide is copied from auction catalog.

The numbers are really easy. Bookmark this page and you are done.

The letters are considerably more difficult. Oesho told me he took lessons in India. He thought the lessons were really cheap. The alternative is Plant's book. It seems to have become expensive. A free alternative - though far less systematic - is Saikat's index of coins with overlay and translation. For older coins go here. With regular practice, you can learn to read these Indian coins too.

Thank you for providing some very useful links. And i agree with what Oesho said, language courses are indeed dirt cheap in India.

Having said that, i don't try to learn the West Asian languages out of choice. The reason, i think will be laughable for the majority, but a few, i think, will agree. If i start reading these languages, i fear i will stop enjoying the calligraphy.
This is true as well for East Asian languages. I enjoy Chinese and Japanese calligraphy because i don't read those languages.
