Akbar, Malwa.
« on: September 14, 2009, 04:53:41 PM »
This is a coin of the Mughal emperor Akbar from Malwa mint. The date id clearly read 97X To me the X looks like a 1. Please help attribute. The coin is 7.8g. in weight.
I am not sure whether the coin should be here or in the section on Sultanate coins of Malwa.

Yes, I wonder where this coin should be placed also.
The weight is quite interesting.  I wonder if this coin is another of the problematic Malwa coins that Oesho discused here?

It was an indeed excellent discussion. There was also a mention of a silver issue and also of coins of 971. The period in question was a period of many challanges as it was also around the same time that the sultans of Gujarat had over run Malwa for brief periods. So it the list of rulers is chronicled, you will have a succession of rulers from different dynasties ruling over Malwa in that period of time frpm about AH 940 to AH 971.

Richie,
Trust me to mess up things.
The weight of the coin is actually 7.1g and not 7.8 g as I have mentioned. So it would fit in with the weight of a 64 rati or reduced Tanka of Malwa.
