A place of numismatic interest in Paris
« on: September 17, 2017, 10:09:26 AM »
The French national library (Bibliothèque Nationale de France) has more than books. Among the "other" stuff is a superb collection of medals and coins. They are not on view and can be seen one by one on demand only by accredited students, journalists and researchers only.

Now, the national library has appealed for private gifts, aiming to restore the "Salon Louis XV" in the Richelieu-Louvois building, the previous site of the Bibliothèque Nationale. The Louis XV room will house the numismatic collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale. It is as yet unclear if access to the collection will improve, but one can always hope.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
