Muhammad Shah, Paisa, Mint: Junagadh?
« on: March 06, 2012, 01:52:24 PM »
The coin looks to be an issue in the name of Ahmad Shah (or is it Muhammad Shah?). Please help with further attribution if possible. Weight and size are like the paisa.

Looks very similar to Paisa of Muhammad Shah of Kabul or Peshawar mints.

IMHO the name of the ruler must be Muhammad Shah. The mint doesn't look as Surat, but have no suggestion as yet.

Could the part of the mint be read as 'bandar' like on this coin. It shows quite some similarity.

Abhishek Chatterji (ambhinumis) reads the mint as Junagadh.

When this coin was first posted, the copper coins of Junagadh in name of Muhammad Shah were almost not heard of. However, a few have come to light. I have both the paisa and the 1/2 paisa and I think Abhishek too has one. This is my second coin.
