The mint is an exquisite and rare mint for Akbar coppers. Patan is an ancient fortified town, situated on the banks of the sacred Saraswati river. This town was founded by the Vanraj Chavda in 746 AD and enjoyed a privileged status of the capital of Gujarat, for about 600 years from 746 AD to 1411 AD. Mughal emperor Akbar entered Gujarat and won Anhilwad Patan in 1572.
Patan mint minted coins in all 3 metals viz Gold, silver and copper and all are considered rare! The mint is known on copper coins by 2 names
1) Shahar Pattan (city of patan)
2) Anhilwara Patan (old name of city)
The coin posted is of type 1 i.e. Shahar Patan
The coins are dated 984Ah for Shahar Patan and 985Ah for Anhilwara Patan. However the coin in the post is a Shahar Patan with 985Ah signifying that rare Shahar Patan coins were minted in 985Ah before the change to Anhilwara Patan. A new date indeed for Shahar Patan.

Are you sure the last digit is a 5? It looks like a 4 to me...

Most excellent coin anyway. Are you planning to remove the blue stuff?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

It is 5.. We are looking at Persian coins not Arabic, Peter sir. Suris and Akbar coppers used this 5 on the coins.. It was Jahangir onwards that a large 'O' was used as 5.
