Unique copper of Kam Baksh Hyderabad mint
« on: September 21, 2016, 08:49:02 AM »
Hi all,
Presenting a so far unique coin. glad that I could add it to my collection.
Kam Bakhsh (1707-1708 AD), Copper Dam, Dar al-Jihad Hyderabad Mint, AH 1120/RY 2, 13.71g.
Obv: Farsi legend Fulus Badshah Din (Panah) and AH date.
Rev: Mint-name with epithet arranged in three lines, RY partly visible at the bottom.
Little deposit otherwise Very Fine, Very Rare.Probably unique!!
So far, copper issues of Kam Bakhsh were known from only one mint, Dar al-Zafar Bijapur. This is the first time a coin of Hyderabad mint has come to light. Kam Bakhsh is referred to on copper coins by his title 'Din Panah' (“Refuge of the Creed”) which is echoed in the couplet he used on his silver and gold issues.

Yes - Very important historically since the date 1120 indicates he controlled the Southern prt of the empire long after Shah Alam Bahadur took control at Shahjahanabad (Dehli).

It is his eye and the knowledge............that gets him the sparklers amongst the coppers. I had seen this coin but discarded it at first sight since it looked pretty shabby...........then. Only a jewelers eye could spot a diamond in the heap of roughs......and glass bits.

It is an incredibly important coin and possibly minted as the date indicates just before the war with Bahadur shah at Hyderabad. Thanks Amit ji for the flowery words

There is a lot of room for research and new finds in coppers than any other metals
