Bimat,
Are you not fed up with too many commems being issued by India?
The are quite a few collector living around Mumbai who have gone above their budget to book UNC sets and would be happy to see such recommendations of topics to be stopped.

I'm happy giving so many recommendations to Indian mints because I do not collect them. ;D ;D ;D I really don't care if they are issuing 5 set annually or 50...

Well, I'm aware of difficulties faced by collectors collecting Indian unc/proof sets..One unc + one proof set of each issue x say 8 issues per year easily crosses 50-60k! ::) Add to that single coin sets, restrikes (being advertised as new types by dealers) and you may end up spending nearly 100k annually! It has indeed become very expensive hobby!

I think mints missed a golden opportunity to issue commemorative coins on International Fleet Review 2016. Commemorative stamps were issued though...

Aditya

Good idea, I guess it will be in pipeline and get issued eventually !!!  ;D

The first post in this thread is being modified as additional information becomes available. This modification doesn't necessarily show as a new post, so just wanted to let the members know.

Added 350th Birth Anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh to the list of possible coin releases. India's Finance Minister has allocated a huge some of money to celebrate this occasion in 2016-17. Also confirmed the release of Allahabad High Court coins.

Added release dates for Maharana Pratap 475th Birth Anniversary and Banaras Hindu University Centenary Year. Let's see if there are other coin releases in the next few months. Deendayal Upadhyaya and University of Mysore would be the next ones, unless Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is released earlier than November as well.

Tatya  Tope should be next since it is the only one with gazette notification issued.

Mysore University is due on July 7th.

It may be preceded by Nabakalebar Rath Yatra if the same is not totally dropped.

Tatya Tope coin was released on 18 April. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu notification has been out for a while too. Thanks for the university of Mysore release date.

The Government of India has decided to celebrate the following:
Birth Centenary of M. S. Subbulakshmi  1916-2016
Birth Centenary of Bismillah Khan
Birth Centenary of Amritlal Nagar
150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Abhedananda

Could there be coins released on any of the above?

All are likely, at least for release functions and set booking.

Government of India is planning to release coins celebrating Sant Kabir Das, renowned 15th century poet. This could be similar to previous issues like Sant Tukaram and Mahatma Basaveshwara. This release is still under planning, so let's wait for additional details.
