Akbar dam, mint Munimabad, 977Ah
« on: January 22, 2015, 06:34:20 AM »
Hi guys,
A lot of debate happened personally and on facebook groups among experts about the mint name on these rare coins. There was debate on the spelling and start of the mint name as no coin known so far(published) could show the entire mint name. I was lucky to have chanced upon a very rare coin showing showing the initial letters and combined with my earlier coin, the mint name can be read as 'MUN'EEMABAD' or ' منعمم اباد '. The location of this mint remains speculations but not the mint name anymore for me. Experts please comment

Here is my other coin showing the ending 'mim' of the mint name, the 'abad' is written on top of the word 'Mun'eem'

The coin was posted by asm on my behalf... I had posted the second coin along with another on WOC earlier.. But the first coin is a recent discovery leading to complete mint name.. Ref to this link for the second coin

I am once more in aware of those with the ability to read the script on the coins. I cannot make any connection between the name in modern script and what I see on the coin.

Is the location of Munimabad known?

Here is the mint name on the coin for dear Peter sir.. The mint name is 'منعم اباد '... I hope the script is clear.. Mim+nun+ain+mim+ alif + be+alif+ dal.. No, the location of munimabad is not certain but appears to be around Ujjain as both coins have same mint mark.
Ajay ji, I had to wait from March 2013 to get this coin to complete the mint name

Another coin( not from my collection) which shows the position of 'abad'... The three coins combined makes a complete coin

In addition and as illustration, there is here another half dam of Munimabad mint, in pretty grade, obtained recently.
10,30g / 16mm / thickness: 5,5 - 6mm / dated 977 too
