Adl falus Lahore type runs from AH 977  to 979 as per present record.

And did you notice that your dam bears the unusual legend : "zarb Lahore 'adl falus " ?
Only parts of "'adl"  are visible on most of them and this legend has been detected only few years ago...

Nice find :)

Thanks a lot sir  for admiring the coin , now hunting for illahi type.
As I understand 3 varieties exists for Lahore or may be more ( not to my limited knowledge)
1- DAK Lahore
2.Adl falus Lahore &
3. Illahi Lahore - still missing.

Cheers ;D

Thanks Saro for the explanation for the vertical stroke of Adl.
However from bottom to top it would read Adl Falus Zarb Lahore. Strictly reading top to bottom then it would at best be Zarb Lahore Falus Adl.......

Also Adl = Just or Justice So would the obvers legend translate as the "Just copper issued (or minted) at Lahore"?

Yes asm, the correct order for reading is well : 'adl falus zarb Lahore; it is one without epithet for the mint.

Thanks Bernard. Gives me more confidence in my ability to try to 'read' coins.

Well, new finds are thrown up regularly as more and more coins (or at least images) are displayed.

As Bernard says, yours is another variety.......... or at least a sub type.

This coin is in fact the n°664 of Valentine, but wasn't read at this time.
I join a paper from IIRNS Newsline / april 1999 in which the reading of this coin has been published for the 1st time.

(I don't think that we have to read "adl-i-falus, the "i" appears better to be a part of "sin" of falus)

While I would like to compliment H Nelson Wright on his achievements, I am surprised how he read Adl Falus Zarb Lahore as Dar al Adl Dhavalpur

Misreadings are very common in Akbar dam, due to the nature of script. The common 'Khilafat Agra' variety in Agra mint was misread as Jalalnagar by Whitehead! By the way there exists no less than 7 varieties in lahore Ajay ji ( you have to slog for some types)

It is the charm of collecting mughal coinage.
Which is much interesting & enjoyable than B.I , IPS or other themes.
