The first year of an Emperor era is called gannen instead of ichi nen. The characters for gannen are 元年. So Heisei 1 is 平成元年, not 平成1年 nor 平成一年.
I can't really follow this?

Thanks, paul

Meiji Era, Year 15, AD 1882

The first year is marked "First", all others are marked with numerals, "2", "3" and so on.
