Thanks for showing your Gwalior Akbar Coins.

My coin is already discussed in this thread:

http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,5363.0.html

However, I have another dam of Gwalior, Ilahi 37, which is shown here.

Can someone please read the inscription in Red on the reverse of the coin, below Ilahi Year 37?

Thanks in advance.

Now that you point it out, I think the coin is Urdu Zafar Qarin. Zafar Qari n is at the bottom Ilahi at the top including the divider. So Urdu would be on the other side. Such coins are known. I was mistakenly reading it as a month which I thought I was not able to read correctly.

No, I am sure the coin is Gwalior only, which can be read very clearly on the Obverse top (Thanks to Tariq, who showed me how to read Gwalior on Akbar Coins).

So, the reverse bottom could be some Ilahi month probably.

Congratulations ! Very interesting coin which seems to be a mule.

obverse : "zarb falus Gwalior" with a marvellous full die !
reverse, as read by Amit is well :"zafar qarin Ilahi 37" and not at all a persian month.

No doubt a very scarce dam...

A little bit of history research would be interesting on the date.

Thanks a lot, SARO, for pointing this out.
How common are Mule Coins for Akbar, or for that matter Mughal rulers?

And to get a mule coin of Obverse with Gwalior Die and Reverse with Urdu Zafar Qarin, both hundreds of Kilometers apart, must be a very rare thing in itself.

Mules are rather rare to say the least. Urdu mint as such was a travelling, to use a euphemism, mint so history may provide a key.

This is perhaps the best copper of Akbar I have seen.

I just have a look to the catalogue of mughal coins in Lucknow museum and I see that this dam of Gwalior mint with both "Gwalior" and "Zafar Qarin" is in fact catalogued by C.J Brown, under n°1037 ( same ilahi date 37), with the author's observation : "this is a curious example of a careless coiner" .

"Urdu Zafar Qarin" mint has no specific location, but the fact that a such a die was present at Gwalior's mint may indicate that it has been made by a mughal engraver from this mint.

Your coin should belong to a same group of dams struck by this "careless coiner"?

Once again : a scarce and nice coin !

Thanks saro for confirming that I could at least read some part of the mint correctly............and Abhay, congratulations for this beautiful coin. As saro says, it has been observed in the past would indicate that more than one were produced and could also lead to a conclusion that the coins were produced around there.

Well a thought just struck me and since I am still very poor with my reading & understanding of Persian........please do not laugh if I have made a stupid statement but this is my thought how the coin would read:

Obv: bottom to top: Zarb Falus Gwalior..........Rev: bottom to top:Zafar Qarin Ilahi 37

which could be read as

the (Zarb) minted (Falus) Copper coin  at Gwalior (by the) (Zafar Qarin) Victorious Army (in the) Ilahi year 37.

A completely new type just as we have the Dakhil Chittor and Salimabad Dakhil Ajmer - minted just as the Forts were breached (taken) by the victorious Mughal Army. I am going by the translation of the legend Urdu Zafar Qarin to mean the 'Camp of the Victorious Army'
