Martin,
Can you please upload some photos of your Manx Sir Winston Churchill Birth Centenary 1 Crown medal-coin?

It exists in both cupro-nickel & silver.

Aidan.

Who mentioned the Isle of Man?

(Apart from you, just now, that is ...)

BC Numismatics

Martin,
You also mentioned about the Isle of Man earlier in this thread.

You must be getting forgetful in your old age. ;D ;D ;D

He looks much more sterner on the coin.

Agreed, but the design is a good one nevertheless. Don't try and argue :) The portrait I find quite impressive, and I also like the idea that the only element which accompanies it is his last name. What I do not like is the font used on that side; other than that, the coin is fine.

Side note - the Royal Mint page about the piece that Martin mentioned in reply #7 can now be found here:

In this case Aidan is right ... maybe it was some translateltd impersonator though. ;) Anyway, this is the piece:

And yes, the 1965 Crown is a better design methinks.

OK, I did a search for "Man" and "Manx" but not "IOM", which I have just found, so I retract.  Never mentioned anything about owning one though (not sure if I do or not!)

And yes, I am indeed getting, erm, what was it we were talking about again?

BC Numismatics

Martin,
We were talking about the Manx 1974 1 Crown medal-coin commemorating Sir Winston Churchill's Birth Centenary.

This topic is getting more and more hilarious. Love it! ;D

BC Numismatics

Christian,
  How?

Just because I describe the Manx 1974 1 Crown as a medal-coin,as none of the medal-coins denominated in Crowns circulate.

Bill,
Richard Lobel does mention in the blue Coincraft that he tried to spend a Churchill Crown on a bus shortly after he moved to London from America back in the late 1960's.

You mean one of these (yes, they are a circulation coin).

At least your friend didn't try to spend a penny on the bus!  ;D
