Akbar fraction. DAMRA! Rare!!
« on: January 28, 2015, 05:07:01 PM »
In ilahi 33, Akbar experimented with introduction of coins with their value written on them but no mint. Nisfi (10gms) is known and although very scarce are seen off and on.. But this coin posted below is rare to say the least! The obverse reads "Damra' which means a 1/4th dam (and the coin weighs 5.1gms justifying the legend) and on the reverse ilahi 33.. It has a well dotted border on the sides. A true rarity! Enjoy!

Superb coin Abhinumis :perfect: and very rare in such high grade...

Even very rare, I think that the "damri / Ilahi 33" (with denomination "damri" written on it) is of a higher rarity; one is reported by Valentine.
Did you or any member have ever seen it ?

Another damra is here on WoC: http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,29627.msg189508.html#msg189508

It was a lucky find for me. I have the nisfi and the damra among the coins in this series

I have a question on this, Abhishek.
Are these typical clayey/sandy patinas observed for specific mints or are they hoard/region-specific. I have a couple of coins (Gorakhpur and Hisar, if I remember correctly) with similar patinas.

I think has to be hoard specific. I cannot relate one region specifically or one mint having such patinas. BTW this coin came all the way from United Kingdom, so do not know it's find place
