Olympic two pound coin to commemorate Games handover from Britain to Brazil

5:00PM, SUN 12 AUG 2012

The release of the two pound coin coincides with the final day of the London 2012 Games and is to commemorate the handing over of the Olympic mantle. It features two hands meeting over an Olympic relay baton to symbolise the handover of the Games from London to Rio.

The handover from London 2012 to the Rio 2016 team will take place along with the extinguishing of the Olympic Flame, which has stayed alight throughout the competition. This signals the end of the Games.

Traditionally, it is a chance to celebrate what the athletes have achieved and also for a massive party.

The 2012 closing ceremony - called A Symphony of British Music - will celebrate music as one of Britain's strongest cultural exports over the last 50 years.

Mr Gavin said: "It is about British creativity in the arts.

"There is a hell of a lot of talent and music and a hell of a lot of show in the show."

The coin is the final coin in the Olympic and Paralympic Coin collection from The Royal Mint.

The ceremony ends with an eight minute handover to Rio 2016, the next host Olympic city.

They will remove the vat charge ... So lesser than £19.99 if shipped to india

You can get it for £8 or so if you buy from a reputable British dealer and you pay somewhat less postage..

Another option is to order number of items together. Royal Mint will charge same shipping cost (£10), no matter how many items you buy, so if you buy say 10 different items, shipping cost per item would be £1 only. (You can buy multiple pieces of same product from Royal Mail unlike some other mints)

Looks nicer as a coin than a design, the first time I saw it I thought it was rubbish. Yeah, the 50p swimming one was different when it first appeared.

kena

For me even £9.99 is too much even with the lower shipping charge of £2.95 (or free with the code that came with the free Olympic 50 pence album).

Just have to wait until these show up in circulation.

Yeah, £10 for £2 just isn't worth it.
