Here is a Tajikistan coin with Shirinsho Shohtemur. A farmer's son, born in the Bukhara emirate who ended up in a factory in Tashkent. He turned communist and specialised on minorities, being a Tajik in a country dominated by Uzbeks. He rose continually in the Soviet hierarchy, to the point where he became instrumental in the decision to split off the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic from the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic in 1937. Likely because of this feat, he was denounced as a traitor and executed in the same year. He was rehabilitated in 1957.

In 1991, with the implosion of the Soviet empire, Tajikistan became independent and a dictatorship. There can be little doubt that without Shohtemur, Tajikistan would not have existed today.
