Jahangir, AE Dam, Deogiri mint, Liddle type C-2
« on: April 01, 2012, 09:46:48 AM »
This dam weighs 20,43g and is dated "yr.4" (in "S" of falus), unfortunately the reverse isn't very clear and the mintname is cut; not sure that what is after the "wao" is a letter or an ornament ?.."zarb" in center and may be a date is at bottom?
It seems to be of the same type and mint as the one I posted recently (on march 16th).
All suggestions will be welcome  :)

The date on this piece will be AH102(8 or 9)/Ry.14.
The mint is a bit more problematical. 'Surat'? There is no issue of Jahangir of this mint, for comparison.

Dear Oesho, many thanks for your help! I haven't think to "Surat" as I thought, as you, that it wasn't a mint of Jahangir, and I discover now that this mint is reported (only for copper) by C.R. Singhal (Mint-Towns of the Mughal Emperors of India / 1953) and by Dilip Rajgor in his booklet "Collector Guide to Mughal Coins".
That would be pleasant.. but the mintname is really too cut here and I am afraid that I have to wait for another dam of this mint to have confirmation by comparison..

To me, this seems very similar to Deogiri (Liddle type C-2). RY 4 enclosed in "Seen" of "Falus"?

Many thanks ! it's clear for this new mint.
I think now that my coin (at up of this thread) is too dated 14 and not 4, what I took for the vertical end of the sin of "falus" is better the "1" of 14

Again, Kotri. Deogiri is an incorrect reading.

Another suggestion: Udaipur.
I think this is the variety where the mint name appears above "zarb" with "ye" at the end of the mint-name forming the divider. How would the "ye" above "zarb" fit with "Udaipur"   ???
