Neat little coin...just found one on E-Bay so it's on it's way. Now the fun will be identifying the instruments on the coin. Very often a real challenge.

Oh, that is easy. Doesn't everybody know that these are a daf drum, a tar and a kamancheh? ;D

What is interesting (apart from the fact that the qəpik coins are not dated) is that the coins and the notes have corresponding designs. So the three instruments that you see on the 1 qəpik coin are also depicted on the 1 manat note.

Hi, Christian.

You know, I just today found your May 17th post about the instruments on the Azberbaijan 1 Qapak coin. THANK YOU! I write the instruments in my inventory of the music collection, but I never was sure about these instruments. Your post is immensely helpful. Many thanks!!!

Of course, that spurred me to find an unusual instrument for you. Here it is, on a scarce Vietnamese gold coin (KM324.) I couldn't even find a name for it.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Hi, Peter.

Any more information on thia Vietnamese gold coin, approximate size, approximate date??? sounds like a fun challenge to me to try to locate one.

It's a major ouch in the wallet. None on sale, but a similar coin is here (lot 569). Another similar coin is here. (image attached as it will disappear otherwise.) Note that there is also a horn in this series.

Major ouch in the wallet is right.  Guess I'll have to stick to more contempory stuff!

Thanks, Peter

Coffeetime...that design is absolutely gorgeous!!! Thank you so much for posting. I am on the hunt for the mint site to see when it will be available to order.

That coin has now been issued (on 20 July), with the design that won the competition though. ;) See the attached image; here is a folder in English with some more information: http://www.nbs.sk/_img/Documents/_BankovkyMince/Zberatelske/Cikker/Cikker-a.pdf  Price is about €24 in BU and €29 in proof.

Didn't the Czech Republic just realease a 2011 200 Koruna music related coin?  Has it been shown here already?  Sorry haven't followed this thread closely.

Yes, they did. Thought that one had been mentioned here already, but maybe I was wrong ... anyway, here it is. The coin (in proof and unc, total mintage about 20,000) commemorates the Prague Conservatory.

Hello, Christian.

Thanks for the reminder. I have this on my list of "needs" but forgot about it. Guess I'm waiting for the price to drop a bit. Thanks for reminding me.

Alan

Picked up the 1000 Schilling Strauss KM-3008 last Saturday. Waiting anxiously for it to arrive from Austria. A budget buster...but that opening in the collection needed to be filled.

I believe that the stringed instrument in the design above is a kora.

The drum next to it is a djembe.
