The 2021-dated 2 pence coin will be minted for general circulation. It is currently being produced.

Other coins that The Royal Mint was today producing were circulation coins for Egypt and Thailand and gold collectors coins for Bermuda.

The 2021-dated 2p coin has now been released into general circulation. The first pieces were found in London.

They have now reached Devon.

I can confirm that, despite the Royal Mint's claims that the 2p coin will not be issued for circulation for the foreseeable future, the 2p dated 2021 has in fact been issued.

I generally no longer encounter circulation coins as I went cashless from the start of COVID, but tonight I was in an amusement arcade in Scarborough.  I don't normally frequent such establishments but I was with family that do, and to my surprise, one of the first machines I looked at had a shiny 2021 2p near the edge.  My sister was trying frantically to get it but in the end I asked someone who worked there, explaining that I was a collector and that this 2p was supposedly rare/impossible, and to my surprise she opened it up and let me swap it!  My first thought was that it was perhaps from a broken-up set, but then I saw another machine with one in so clearly it has been issued.

About a month ago a friend had one in change - oddly, it was already in too poor a condition to warrant adding it to my collection. Haven't seen one since.

Edit: On reconsideration and looking at a similarly poor one on ebay, I wonder if the copper plating is faulty on a load of these.

The 2021-dated 10p coin can now be found in circulation.

Why they are still minting in ROYAL SHIELD OF ARMS  pattern, while the round pound ceased to exist after 2016... the coins pattern has no great look without the finisher 1 pound ..
Thx

I reckon we will have to wait for a new monarch, and hopefully any new coinage will avoid heraldry.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

In 2021, for the first time in years the Royal Mint has manufactured 2 pound coins again for general circulation. More than 6 million pieces of the Britannia 2 pound coin were produced. These have not yet been found in circulation, and so are likely still stored at The Royal Mint or the cash centres.

Of those, I've got the 2p, 5p and 10p.  Not bad going, considering I don't use cash anymore.
