Indonesia 100 Rupiah (1978), KM# 42, 7.0 g, 28.5 mm, Copper-Nickel, Mintage: 907,773,000.

Obverse: Minangkabu (which means "spired roof") House.

Reverse: Legendary tree of life.

While the message of the coin is valid, it needs to be understood first in Indonesia.

Yes this is a special coin for me. It was the first coin from outside The Netherlands I bought on a coinfair, when I just started to collect coins in 1979. From that moment on Indonesia the most important country in my world coin collection. In 2017 they made a new serie of coins.

I wonder about what tree of life they are talking. I found some mentioning of Batang Garing but could not find any inf about this tree.

Also, I think that it is a part of FAO series.

Batang Garing is a traditional ornament of the Dayaks. There is a stylised monument of a Batang Garing in Kuala Kapuas, capital of the Kapuas district on Kalimantan (Borneo), though the shape on the coin is more like the Javanese variety. A nice overview is here.

Somewhat disappointing that you didn't take up gthe explanation of the Gunungan in the link I gave above. While the Gunungan is the symbolic equivalent of the tree of life, it is a separate cultural expression with a function in Wajang performances the Dayak original doesn't have.

Gungunan symbolises unity or totality, so it has the same function as the tree of life (batang garing). The Gungunan is placed on the stage and in front of the screen before a shadow play (wayang) starts, between acts and at the end of the performance.

Thanks to you! I also like it now. Do you agree that it is a FAO coin? I could not find any FAO event with name Forestry for Prosperity in 1978.

Forestry is part of the FAO remit, but FAO coins usually have a clear reference to the organisation. Indonesia puts slogans on other coins, so I am inclined not to consider it an FAO coin. The conclusive evidence would be whether FAO included it in the albums it issued.
