What is the difference between Korean ¼ Yang Gwang Mu KM# 1117 and KM# 1118?

Krause catalog says: Obv: Larger circle around dragon Rev: Value "2 Chon 5 Fun" within wreath below flower. Note: KM#1118 were counterfeits made on machinery supplied by the Japanese. These counterfeits were authorized for circulation by the Korean Government.

Mine is most probably KM#1117

This is KM#1117  year two,  it was on this forum that I discovered I had a year one coin which is an exceedingly rare date & missing in most Korean coin collections, although your coin is rather worn the symbol for 2 is visible at twelve oclock,  you can compare your coin with mine here

I have no doubts that mine is year two. I was just wondering what the difference between KM# 1117 (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces24480.html) and KM#1118 (also year two, https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces35116.html). For me, both coins look identical.

Apparently the difference is in the size of the circle around the dragon, 1117 small tight circle,  1118 larger circle,   the Numista coin looks the same as mine & yours so probably not 1118,

Added to that KM is well known for being unreliable for accuracy of descriptions

Japanese one has a smaller circle that impossible compare if you have only 1 coin

It's not just the circle. The characters of the legend align with different parts of the central design. The denomination is well aligned on the genuine piece and quite badly aligned on the imitation.

The easiest way of checking seems to be that on the Korean issue the central stroke of 'nien' (year) [top right on cam's coin and top centre on Vic's right coin] points at the dragon's elbow, whilst on the Japanese issue (Vic's left coin) it points at the dragon's head.

By the way, mine is 1117 as well .
