Vanuatu, 50 vatu, 1981.

The first anniversary of independence.

The obverse of the issued coins omitted the flag.

The issued coin hides some of the person's bottom.

Presumably this was to protect Western sensibilities of the time.

This coin would be sold to collectors, after all.


Western attitudes have changed somewhat since then.

Along came the days of the thong and the "wedgie".  :D

Here we see the issued 10,000 vatu.

There were only two coins in the eventual series.

Both were designed by Robert Elderton.
