Guernsey: 1985 coinage - adopted and unadopted designs

In 1983, Guernsey decided to redesign its decimal coins.

Robert Elderton of the Royal Mint worked on the designs and produced a superb set.

It was eventually issued in 1985.

One penny.  Fish. Not adopted.

One penny.  Chancre crab.  Adopted.

2 pence.  Not adopted. 

The man looked as if he was drinking beer. 

This was considered unacceptable.

2 pence.  The man was not wanted.

Still not adopted.

2 pence. Cow only. Not adopted.

The artist was told to add horns to the cow and lose the fence.

2 pence. No fence now. Adopted.

5 pence.  Craft work: two old women knitting.

Not adopted.

5 pence.  Boat building again.  Still not adopted.

5 pence.  A single yacht.  Not adopted.

10 pence.  Tomatoes.  Not adopted.

Fewer tomatoes but larger and slightly less round.

The stake has gone. Adopted.
