The image of a very rare 1850 shilling has recently been added to my website at
http://www.ukcoinpics.co.uk/qv/1s/index.html

I gather it sold for over £1000 in 2007

Enjoy

Congratulations, Tony. The pic makes two important points:

a) those who collect by date will eventually run into coins of a common type with a scarce date
b) a picture may not be the same thing as having the coin in your collection, but it's very close

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I have since heard that it later sold for over £3000!!

It is a very rare coin.

Hi,
Just to add an update to this subject:
I recently sold an 1850 shilling via Lockdales Auction house last month - it was graded down to VF although I assumed it to be EF, but nevertheless; it sold for £950 (plus buyers premium)
I also sold an entire date run of shillings from 1816 to last issue (1970 proof), including all rare dates, some double stamped dates and a collection of forgeries.
Regards David
