Looks like a Dam of Dogaon Mint of Akbar. Please help full attribution. Year AH 986 is quite clear.

Well the reverse is

Hashtad
Nohsad O
Sanat Fe
986

Obverse

I can see Falus but the colours then stuuf my eyes.

Zarb is missing from the bottom

but from memory it should say

Dar-ul-Khalifat
Falus
Dogoan
Zarb

See what someone who cn see can make of the rest.

asm

Thanks Arthur. Meanwhile another similar one but AH 995 or is it 999? Surely Dar al Salam?

Sorry Amit too much green on brown for my eyes at present on the obverse. The date is debatable.

asm

Can some one now (with the replaced images) read the legend? Top coin (dated AH 986) is, I believe, Dar al Khilafat. The lower coin AH 995 or most likely 999 is Dar al Salam? Any Idea when the epithet changed? On Zeno the coin AH 984 is with Dar al Khilafat while 988 and later are Dar al Salam............

Amit ji as u have said, top one is Dar-Al-khilafah.

Ansari

Second one ........Dar Al-Islam

asm

Does the date read AH 999 or is it 995? Epithet to me looks to read more Khilafat than Salam / Islam?

Khalifat I believe on a hard look. Hmmm for the date.

saro

Dear asm, I'll try to use your method for cleaning copper coins, it's surprising according to your result!

According to the date, I have a preference for "995" as the two first "9"  are a little sharper (at top) than the 3rd digit.

It's a real question : "why on mughal coins, dates or legends are always cut at the wrong place? was is only to worry 21th century numismatists?? :D"....

Oesho

Dear All, the mint name is not Dogaon, Dar al-Khilafat, but Lucknow

asm

Dear Oesho,
The cleaning clearly has helped better identification of the coin and thank you for pointing out the correct mint name. Saro and Arthur thank you for the help. .....and Overlord, thanks for getting this one .......
