Title: Please help identify Mughal silver rupee
Post by: gokhale on January 29, 2019, 12:02:41 PM
This is sent by a seller. I don't have it in hand. So cannot detail the weight and diameter. Please let me know if it's genuine and rarity. Thanks in advance(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190129/59c5f8db677f32537e05fdbc3752c557.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190129/296bf87f43c02366f2346030d4832fe2.jpg)

Shah Jahan. Very little of the mint name is seen on the coin. Better images need for attribution.

Vic, I agree. The quadrant outside the square that has the mint name is almost entirely blank. From what little that is on the coin, I thought of Patna or Tatta. Tatta seems not to have issued any coins with the central legend in square while a similarly dated Patna coin as the date placement different from this one. So both seem not possible.

The legend on the Cental squares is almost the same on all these type of coins. Shah Jahan Badshah Gazi on the reverse and the Kalima on the Obverse. So unless the mint name is reasonably clearly seen, one can not confirm the mint.
