Title: Jahangir Qandahar falus AH yr. 3 , any reference for this type?
Post by: saro on March 10, 2013, 04:47:11 PM
weight 7,84g
unfortunately not in good grade but still legible, with ry :"3"
Did somebody has ever seen this "rawani" type?
"falus / Qandahar/ (shad + date?)" and "rawani sanah 3"

The coin is published by Valentine (1911), pp. 170/171, no. 3.

I made a terrible mistake myself by misinterpreting the date and therefore made the wrong description of the coin offered at the ONS-Auction (http://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=114480) last year.
Shailendra Bhandare who present at the auction wasn't fooled and obtained the piece for the Ashmolean collection.

Many thanks; but don't you think that this one seems to a slightly different type with "rawani"( instead of "rawan") + a regnal year ?

I could be mistaken but from the images I see what looks like AH1048 (bottom image)/RY 11 (top image). Could this be an issue of Shah Jahan?

Dear Overlord,
Many thanks for your help, you have really good eyes! now, with the coin in hands, I see that you are right: what I took for the dot of "sanah" is well a digit of the AH date "1048" ...
On the other face 11 may well fit with the ry. of Shah Jahan.
I already have a Qandahar falus of Shah Jahan dated 1048 but of another type, similar to this one:
