Title: Copy of Muhammad Shah Rupee ?
Post by: capnbirdseye on October 29, 2012, 08:49:16 PM
I've had this for years, it looks like it may be cast as there are what appears to be blow holes on one side, it's weight is way down for a Rupee at 8.60g, it doesn't somehow look like a jewellers copy as it's not attractive enough, definitely silver & not plated so I wonder what would be it's purpose?

20mm

Looks low quality silver. With more of copper.

That is a substantially lower weight than all my Mughal contemporary counterfeits with silver over a copper core. Diameter and thickness would be good.

Rather thin for the diameter.

Given the dimensions I am almost thinking iron core silver plated.
Not unknown in the ancient (Roman) world but it is rather rare. But that is what the weight is hinting at.

It's not magnetic & not silver washed, it's probably a low grade silver/copper mix

Well, if your dimensions are correct it can't be because of the weight.

So we perhaps have another ruse at foot.
