Title: Aurangzeb. Copper Rupee?????
Post by: asm on October 27, 2011, 11:59:38 AM
While in the Coin market at Amsterdam during the WoC gathering, I spotted this funny coin. Looked like a rupee but was copper. I instinctively bought it.......... I weighed it and it weighs 8.3g. Definitely looks to be a contemporary coin, made to be coated with silver to deceive. The date seems to read 11xx and the RY 3X. I am unable to make out the mint. Can some one please help.

Hard to say from a pic, but there could be traces of silver in the lower parts inside the letters. The famous asm luck strikes again. I also hope to get to know more about this coin but I am already wondering how it ended up in Amsterdam. A Dutch sailor duped as he left the country, maybe?
